Fotovoltaika dnes zdaleka není jen o samotné výrobě elektřiny. Stejně důležité je umět vyrobenou energii efektivně spotřebovat a akumulovat – typicky do bojleru, akumulační nádrže nebo topných spirál. A právě tady často narážejí klasické mechanické stykače na své limity: jsou hlučné, opotřebovávají se a zkrátka neumí reagovat na rychlé změny výkonu střídače.
